Jordan Brady ("Wakin' Up in Reno") will direct Jena Malone in "Lifer's Picnic" for HSI Entertainment/Tomorrow Films. The picture will begin production in Los Angeles in mid-May.

Penned by tyro scribe Scott Sandoe, "Lifer's" is a dramatic comedy in which an annual picnic at the local maximum security prison causes a dysfunctional family to come to terms with their inmate father and their dreams for the future.

Tomorrow Films will handle worldwide sales on the under-$10 million-budgeted pic, which HSI/Tomorrow is wholly financing.

HSI/Tomorrow is a joint venture of HSI Entertainment and Tomorrow Films. The Culver City-based HSI Entertainment is a division of HSI Prods., one of the industry's largest commercial and musicvideo production companies.

Brady previously teamed with HSI/Tomorrow on "The Third Wheel," starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, to be released by Miramax Films. He also helmed the 1999 mockumentary "Dill Scallion."

Malone, who will be seen in the upcoming "Life as a House," "Donnie Darko" and "The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys," starred opposite Susan Sarandon in "Stepmom."
